Feb 21, 2011 · THe span is 24' with no support except the ends. THe beam will only be for the hoist. I am thinking I want a 1 ton hoist but also am thinking about a 2 ton on occasion if I get a big tool in or something like that once a year. If needed for a large load I could put a temp support somewhere near the middle to help hold up the beam.

The hoist I am doing needs to lift 1000# and the span is 19'. The uprights/legs will be stationary mounted to the floor and one side of the i-beam at the top of the leg will also be mounted to the building. According to the chart a S8 x 18.4 beam should work. I am assuming the chart has a safety factor built in. I will research this some more.

Last elevator shaft I worked on had the hoist beam hard up against the roof. I'm sure they can accommodate standard precast industry tolerances; which is not ±9 inches. I'd say someone has some hard choices ahead on how to modify the as-built shaft.

Sample Calculations for Using Joist Span and Beam Size

For sizing the beam, use a joist length of 10’ (8’+2’) and a posting spacing of 10’. The Beam Size table indicates that the beam may be either two 2x10s or two 2x12s, depending on wood used. CASE III SOLUTION: Use “a” or “b”, whichever is greater, to determine joist size.

Beams of more than one ply must be fastened together with either nails or bolts. The 2012 IRC code calls for a minimum of a 32″ O.C. staggered pattern with at least a 3″x.120″ nail. We have learned from our experience to use at least a 3 1/4″‘x.131″ groove shank nail in a column of four every foot apart down the laminate.

additional downward strain and causes the hoist to get in a bind. Cable must run directly to the pipe, not angled or up and down. • Always use the proper size of 7 x 19 Aircraft Cable to lift your boat. 7×19 Aircraft Cable is constructed of seven strands of nineteen wires, and has excellent flexibility, good abrasion resistance and superior strength.

Nov 04, 2014 · First off I'm not just guy on the internet. Second off just because it's a 12-18" beam doesn't mean it will support the loads the OP is looking for. "I" beams or "H" beams are sold in flange width x weight per foot. You can get 12, 14, and 16" beams in under 20 lb/ft configurations. Those beams have like 3/8" web and will not support the OP requests.

I-Beam Trolleys | McMaster-Carr

Fit these trolleys to your beam by turning a threaded rod or knob to adjust width— there's no need to disassemble the trolley for installation. Use them to transport hook-mount hoists along a beam.
